12th July, 1951.
I have just received a telegram from Sir Alexander Grantham asking me to send you a copy of his savingram about establishing an Endowment Fund for the Hong Kong University.
Sir Alexander has suggested a meeting between Colonial Office representatives, yourself and Mr.T.N.Chau, Sir Man Kam Lo and Colonel Ride to discuss what we can do to find a solution to this thorny problem of ensuring that the University has adequate funds to carry on its activities.
Colonel Ride is due to return to Hong Kong next Friday the 20th July. It appears from your programme that you will be in Church House for an address by the Chief of the Imperial General Staff at 10.30 a.m. on Monday the 16th July ani perhaps you could then come up, after the address, to room 344 for a meeting with Sir Christopher Cox, Colonel Ride, Mr. Walter Adams and myself.
If Monday is not convenient the only other date I can suggest is Thursday the 19th July, but in that case I am not sure whether Mr. T.N. Chau would be available as he may be doing the tour of Scotland.
I have written to Mr. T.N. Chau and Sir Man Kam Lo in similar terms and I very much hope that such a meeting can be arranged as suggested above.
